1999 LGMA Time Capsule

At the 2025 LGMA Annual Conference in Kelowna, we had the unique opportunity to open a time capsule sealed in 1999. We encourage you to review some of the submissions in our online image gallery below to get a glimpse of BC local governments from the last century. After careful consideration, we’ve made the decision not to renew the time capsule in its previous form. While it served as a meaningful way to reflect on the past, we’re shifting our focus toward new ways to honour and promote our members and the work they do for BC local governments and First Nations.

The 2026 Annual Conference will feature friendly chapter challenges to encourage connection between peers from the same region. This year will also feature a gratitude wall where participants can share what they are most proud of in their community or their local government. Some examples include a successfully completed project, a team achievement, or something that makes your community unique. We will also feature an image gallery on the conference app, giving attendees the opportunity to share community snapshots, new and renewed connections, and showcase their local swag. As we look ahead, we’re excited to build new ways to celebrate and honour the work of BC local governments across the province.

If you have any ideas on how to champion and celebrate BC's vibrant, resilient communities throughout the year or at our in-person events, please reach out to us at office@lgma.ca.
