Recognition & Awards
LGMA recognizes its members' achievements and contributions to local government service with an awards program.
Award nominations will open again in the spring of 2025.
Do you know of a local government colleague who has exemplified professional leadership, innovation or community and volunteer service recently? The LGMA celebrates these achievements through our awards program. LGMA members are encouraged to nominate their colleagues in the profession who feel are deserving of such recognition. This year, we are looking to celebrate the many achievements of our members with two new awards categories!
- Most Impactful New Professional Award
- Celebrating the accomplishment, dedication, and spirit of a new professional working in local government under 5 years, and
- Regional Chapter Award
- Recognizing excellence in supporting local government professionals within their region.
These new awards categories will further complement existing LGMA Member Awards:
- Distinguished Member;
- Professional Service (Leadership, Innovation, or Community or Volunteer Service);
- Distinguished Partner;
- Long Service (nomination not required as length of service is monitored by LGMA)

Member Awards Nomination Page.
Nominations - the process:
Nominations will be evaluated pursuant to the individual award criteria. These must be submitted in writing identifying the category of recognition, outlining the member's achievement(s) that are to be recognized, and noting how the member has fulfilled the criteria for the chosen award nomination.
The following persons are eligible to nominate someone for an award:
- a member of the Board;
- a Chief Administrative Officer of a BC local government;
- the Regional Chapter Executive; or
- at least two Members who are Regular or Life Members.
The Selection Committee will review and thoroughly evaluate all nominations submitted, with award recipients to be recognized at the Annual Conference.

On June 13, 2024, the LGMA hosted its Member Awards Ceremony at our Annual Conference in Victoria. There we recognized local government staff across BC for their significant contributions made to the local government profession and to the training and development programs of the LGMA.
