Recent, (2021), amendments to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (the Act or FIPPA) have expanded the privacy obligations of local government staff and it is crucial all staff understand the importance of protection of privacy within their roles and the roles of others in the organization. Responsible management of personal information is critical to build and maintain the trust of citizens, who are increasingly concerned about the effects of new and emerging technologies on personal privacy. If you are looking for training to build a foundational understanding of this important area, be sure to sign up for the Protection of Privacy Fundamentals On-Demand Course!
Taken in tandem with the FOI Fundamentals and Records and Information Fundamentals courses, this self-paced course will help you understand the importance of protection of privacy in your organization; how the protection of privacy integrates with FOI and records management at the local government level; and your role and the roles of others in ensuring you appropriately protect the personal information in the custody or control of your organization.
Course participants will also learn more about the LGMA’s FIPPA Toolkit and have an opportunity to attend a live “Ask the Experts” panel as part of the course.
Course Format: This 3-module online course is self-paced, or on-demand, meaning you can work your way through the content at your own pace, at any time.
