Administrative Professionals Conference


If you're an administrative assistant, Mayor or CAO secretary, executive assistant, office manager, secretary, office coordinator, clerk or play an important administrative role in your local government organization, this annual conference is for you!

Specially designed for the administrative professional working in the British Columbia local government context, this annual conference brings a blend of sessions that will help to improve your communication skills, further your professional development and increase your job satisfaction.

In this era of dramatic change in the local government world, assistants have never been more challenged ... more stretched ... than they are today. You're expected to do whatever it takes to keep the office functioning amidst the confusion brought on by re-engineering, restructuring, new technology-whatever changes you're up against. MATI® Leadership in Local Government Organizations - June 16-21, 2019


MATI Leadership is an innovative 5 ½ day residential program specifically designed for people in leadership roles in local government in BC. The program is a blend of theory and practice, with an emphasis on interaction and participant involvement through role-playing and case studies. MATI Leadership will be held on Bowen Island.

MATI® Managing People - May 26-31, 2019


MATI Managing People, a 5½ day residential program held each May on Bowen Island, has been designed to assist supervisors and managers in local governments to build better employee-employer relationships through effective labour relations, collective bargaining, occupational health and safety and contract administration. The program also identifies and analyzes human resource requirements through job design and analysis and illustrates methods for encouraging staff development through orientation, training, career development and performance appraisal systems.

MATI The Successful CAO - Local Government Advanced Management - November 3-8, 2019


MATI CAO is designed for new CAOs (in role for less than three years) and aspiring CAOs (currently in a senior management role). Instruction includes, assess personal strengths, enhance practical knowledge of the CAO role within the BC local government, develop effective strategies and personal action plan for long term success, build your best practices toolkit for supporting council and board effectiveness, apply public interest and ethical decision making frameworks to key issues, and managing relationships 'up, down and out'.

Participants must have taken one of: MATI Advanced Communications Skills, MATI Managing People, MATI Leadership or PADM 307 Ethics in Local Government. If you are a current CAO, but do not meet the pre-requisites, please contact Linda Adams at lindajadams@shaw.ca.
